The 2014 tour of the Possum Holler Fiddlers will take the group of young, traditional fiddle music playing musicians to Kansas City, July 17 - 20, Karlene McGill, group director, recently announced. They will be playing from 1:00 - 2:00 at the Folk Music Center, 509 Delaware, on Saturday, July 19. The Possum, composed of ten fiddlers, ages 9 to 18, are from several towns in southwest Missouri. The troupe plays traditional Ozark fiddle tunes, gospel music and incorporate some vocals in their performances. The troupe is sponsored by Ozark Mountain Music, a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit corporation now in its seventh year of existence. Ozark Mountain Music also sponsors two summer camps and an after-school program in addition to the Possums. for instructors, the program pairs old-time fiddle players with young musicians. In addition to their performance at the Folk Music Center, the Possum Holler Fiddler fiddlers will also be performing at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Hawthorne Boys and Girls Club in Independence, the City Market, and the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Ottawa. EVERY SUNDAY IN KCMO - Kansas City: “Here’s To The Roots” – at 4:00pm at The Dubliner in the Power & Light District. Kris and Havilah Bruders host and feature local artists, open mic time, and a free meal for all KC area musicians that attend. Sponsored by FAI, Midwest Music Foundation, Kansas City Irish Center, and River Trade Radio 90.1FM.
EVERY MONTH IN AUSTIN- Austin: Folk Alliance International Gaslight Troubadour Series hosted by William Harries Graham at Maria’s Tacos. The launch in May featured music from Sam Baker, Raina Rose, Anthony da Costa, The Painted Redstarts, Payton Nicole, and Christiane Swenson. Next show is June 14 featuring Matt the Electrician, Belle Sounds and others. This series is sponsored by Pentgram, Blast, and the Austin School of Music.
