FOLK STORE FREE WORKSHOPS & SPECIAL SHOWS

Saturday, October 25 (two workshops)
12:00pm – 2:00pm
Middle Eastern Music Workshop hosted by Gerald Trimble and featuring the music and instruments of the Middle East.  Bring your instruments to play or try some of ours. 

3:00pm – 5:00pm
Blues Harmonica Workshop hosted by the Blues Hall of Fame member Lazy Lester.  Best known for regional hits recorded with Ernie Young's Nashville, Tennessee based Excello label, Lester also contributed to songs recorded by Slim Harpo, Lightnin' Slim, and Katie Webster and his songs have been covered by The Kinks, The Flamin' Groovies, Freddy Fender, Dwight Yoakam, Dave Edmunds, Raful Neal, Anson Funderburgh, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.  Bring your harmonica.

Saturday, November 1 (11:00am – 2:00pm)
Bluegrass Workshop and Jam Session hosted by banjo great Mark Franzke.

Bring your guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, bass, etc and jam with the finest pickers in the Kansas City area.  Beginner and intermediate group lessons will be available in the early hours and then we will jam.

Saturday, November 8 (11:00am – 2:00pm or later….)
Steel Nerdz Steel Guitar Workshop & Jam @ CODA
featuring Russ Weaver, Bobby DeMoss, and many other steel guitar players plus special guest vocalists Kasey Rausch and Jim Winters.  All levels of pedal and non-pedal steel guitar players welcome.  Come play or just hang and listen.  Coda has great food and beverages and all ages are welcome.  Hosted by Nate Hofer.

Saturday, November 15 (11:00am – 2:00pm)
Songwriters Workshop and Song Swap.  Hosts tba.

All workshops and jam sessions at the Folk Store are FREE and open to all ages and playing levels.  The Folk Store features a large selection of new and vintage instruments including guitar, banjos, mandolins, dobros, bases, fiddles, steel guitars, and accessories.  Gift certificates available.

EVERY SUNDAY IN KCMO - Kansas City: “Here’s To The Roots” –  at 4:00pm at The Dubliner in the Power & Light District.  Kris and Havilah Bruders host and feature local artists, open mic time, and a free meal for all KC area musicians that attend.  Sponsored by FAI, Midwest Music Foundation, Kansas City Irish Center, and River Trade Radio 90.1FM. 

EVERY MONTH IN AUSTIN- Austin: Folk Alliance International Gaslight Troubadour Series hosted by William Harries Graham at Maria’s Tacos.  The August show on August 9th features the 15th year anniversary of Austin's ComboPlate Booking with Michael Fracasso, Nathan Hamilton & Beaver Nelson playing a very special in-the-round.  This series is sponsored by Folk Alliance, Pentgram, Blast, and the Austin School of Music.
